CALDY produced a grandstand finish at Grantchester Road as former England 7s wing Nick Royle dotted down with his 12th try of the season to send his side home with all five points.

Richie Williams’ side more than matched the visitors in the set, the loose and the line out and took the lead two minutes in through the boot of Laurence Rayner.

Caldy struck back six minutes later, centre Gavin Roberts strolling through for the first of their four scores of the afternoon.

Then Rob Conquest was driven over to put the hosts ahead, Rayner missing the extras.

Jones missed a penalty and the conversion for Harrison Crowe’s try, which sent them in ahead at the break.

The Blood & Sand upped the ante, fronting up against the visiting pack and winning a penalty try four minutes into the second half.

But another dominant five-metre scrum saw Jake McCloud break and feed the onrushing Kwaku Asiedu, who dove over for the third for the hosts.

Rayner’s conversion opened up a seven-point lead but Royle’s 11th of the season gave Caldy hope.

And, lurking out on the touchline for a long pass paid off in the final minute of normal time as he crossed over for the winner - sending the away fans away delighted with another superb win in a thrilling contest.
