Rampant Rams still top thanks to big Ben

THE RAMS secured yet another bonuspoint win against Tonbridge Juddians on a sunny day at Old Bath Road to remain top of the pile in National 2 south.

With the crowd in good spirits, most likely down to the beer festival being held at the ground, the Rams dominated the first half after a slow start, which ultimately gave them the platform needed to push on to victory as the second half offered little in terms of action.

Rams head coach Seb Reynolds was reservedly positive with his thoughts after a tough game: “We never quite got complete control of the game today against a very good Tonbridge side.

“They came with a game-plan to move the ball around and challenge our defence, and in fairness they did that at times.

“But all in all the lads did really well to score five tries and earn a bonuspoint victory, while never really gaining a genuine foothold in the game.”

Tonbridge began the game well, earning themselves two penalties within the first five minutes and opting to kick both through Will Robinson, the away side quickly finding themselves 6-0 up on the scoreboard.

The Rams responded well, scoring three unanswered tries – Ben Henderson with a double having gained momentum following a yellow card for Tonbridge’s Ryan Jackson.

Looking as if they might be overrun, Tonbridge bounced back against the run of play, as Toby May combined with Hugo Watson, who ran the ball over the line in the corner to tighten the gap between the two sides.
