Second half blitz kills off canny Clifton

build on last weekend’s victory against Birmingham & Solihull, after leading at one point 26-14 they will feel disappoint­ed to let the game slip.

The home side’s secondhalf fightback began with lock Royce Cadman powering over straight after half-time, Murray grabbing his second two minutes later and Moss completing his double on 78 minutes.

Pomphrey did complete his hat-trick before Moss’ late score, with Bradley Barnes’ drop-goal on the buzzer stealing a losing bonus point. CANTERBURY ran out victors in a thrilling game against Clifton to earn a fifth league victory, with no shortage of tries on display.

The hosts opened the scoring with the first try of the game but at one point trailed by 12 points before a brilliant comeback meant the game finished 40-34.

Two tries from JJ Murray – including Canterbury’s first – ensured victory, which at one point looked uncertain as Clifton led 26-21 at half-time.

Ollie Best had to put in a performanc­e of the highest quality to push his team to victory, and his five conversion­s certainly aided the Canterbury cause, with Aiden Moss and No.8 James Stephens touching down in the first half.

Clifton had the better at the interval though as wing Will Pomphrey grabbed their first two tries, before Bentley Halpin and Chris Rovery touched down for the next two.
