Maximum points for Merthyr as streak continues

Merthyr .......... 35 Swansea ........ 24

- By PAUL HOPKINS

MERTHYR maintained their excellent start to the season with a bonus point try triumph against Swansea.

The visitors took a surprise lead when Callum Carson caught Merthyr asleep by taking a quick tap penalty from his own twenty-two metre line to score a try.

The home side responded with a stylish try for Jay Baker when Adam Hoskins spotted a gap in the middle and found second row men Patrick McBride and Craig Locke in support, before the ball was fired out wide for the centre to cross the whitewash.

Merthyr took the lead when Josh Martin ran at the Swansea defence at pace and fired out a clinical long pass out to Kyle Evans, who scored.

And it got even better for Merthyr when Jack Perkins collected lineout ball on the twenty-two and fed Hoskins, who dummied past a tackler to score under the posts.

Charlie Davies and Josh Guy scored tries for the All Whites to bring them back into contention, but an unstoppable rolling maul from a Merthyr lineout saw Craig Locke crash over for a try.

Swansea were literally handed a lifeline when a loose pass was intercepted by Carson, who raced clear from his own twenty-two to score.

But an advancing Merthyr scrum five saw Phil Rees touch down under the posts to calm the home side’s nerves and seal victory. Star man Adam Hoskins - Merthyr
