Keys unlocked by Bedwas in storming Pandy encounter
Cross Keys .... 34 Bedwas .......... 44
IT might be rather premature to talk of relegation battles but Bedwas picked up five crucial points after their victory over Cross Keys in a thrilling contest at Pandy Park.
The visitors were clinical and their dominant scrum was an impressive platform.
Bedwas battled back from an early 17-3 deficit to lead 24-17 at the interval thanks to two tries by gifted scrum-half Tom Rowlands and a touchdown from openside Nathan Hudd while full-back Joe Scrivens converted all three and nailed a firstminute penalty.
Keys’ first-half points came from tries by wing Rory Budina and number eight Garin Price while flyhalf Jason Tovey converted both and also slotted a penalty.
The hosts regained the lead early in the second half when centre Srdan Majkic powered over for a converted try.
Keys went 34-24 up after the impressive Price bagged his second converted try after fine work by him and Tovey.
But back came Bedwas again and a penalty try and a Scrivens penalty put them back on equal terms.
Wing Gasson’s converted try put them in the driving seat with a quarter of an hour to go.
The trusty Scrivens, who ended up with a 17-point haul, denied Keys a losing bonus point to go with their try bonus when he kept his cool once again to kick a 79th minute penalty for the final score of the game. Star man Tom Rowlands - Bedwas
