Brilliant Bargoed breeze past Aberavon challenge

Bargoed .......... 38 Aberavon ........ 18

- By HOWARD EVANS

ABERAVON’S only loss in seven games was by two points prior to this but this time were hammered by a rampant Bargoed side.

The Wizards were so well beaten in the forwards that they took both their props off after just 30 minutes play and though their scrummage improved, they were outclassed.

Bargoed gained the bonus point try six minutes from time, yet it had looked certain to come much earlier as Aberavon lived off scraps. Wing Ashley Norton powered in for the first try after 12 minutes and Josh Prosser followed the conversion with a penalty.

Aberavon hit back with a try by centre Will Price that James Garland converted.

A penalty try had loomed for several minutes before Aberavon completely lost it to forward pressure and it was 20-10 at the interval.

In a rare Aberavon attack young prop Rhys Henry sent wing Shaun Pearce racing clear from halfway and then came another penalty to Prosser and Garland.

Bargoed put on a grandstand finish as despite being one short it was Norton who again crossed the whitewash.

In the closing minutes scrum half James Leadbeater took advantage of more slack defence and Prosser converted and added two more penalties.

Aberavon will look to bounce back next week at home against Cardiff while Bargoed head to RGC. Star man Ashley Norton - Bargoed
