Drovers get back on track with comprehensive triumph

Llandovery .... 30 Neath .................. 3

- By HUW S THOMAS

AFTER three consecutive defeats, Llandovery came back to winning form at Church Bank with this bonus point win over struggling Neath.

However, despite the onesided nature of the scoreline, they made hard work of putting away the Premiership’s bottom side and did not claim their bonus point until very late on in the contest.

The battling Neath pack under flanker Jordan Collier was more than the equal of the home eight but their backs lacked the cutting edge of their Llandovery counterparts.

Possession was shared but there was always the feeling that the Llandovery back line had more to offer and they eventually swept up the bonus point with a lovely blind side probe that sent replacement Lee Rees striding in wide out.

Despite a yellow card for centre Rhodri Jones, the first half saw Llandovery lead 15-0 after tries from prop Berian Watkins and full-back Gavin Thomas plus a conversion and penalty from fly half Jack Maynard.

After missing two penalties in the first half, Neath full-back Ed Howley kicked a penalty which was soon cancelled out by a Maynard strike but once Neath lost replacement Leon Ward to a yellow card Llandovery upped the tempo.

Hooker Matthew Moore was driven over from a line out, Maynard converting before the bobby dazzling Rees stretched over in the corner to clinch the five point win. Star man Jack Maynard - Llandovery
