Penallta win again to keep heat on Brynmawr

Welsh Division One round-up

LEADERS Brynmawr claimed a bonus-point win over Pontypool United to maintain their winning run. Dan Wall, Adam Lane, Matt Gross and Nathan Preece gave the WRU Plate champions a 23-13 victory.

The win keeps them four points clear of Penallta, who beat Cwmbran 24-13, while third-placed Brecon thrashed Ynysybwl 71-7. Rhiwbina lead One East Central by one point after a 24-8 victory over struggling St Joseph’s. Ben Shariff, Olly Golden, Lewis Pearce and Paul Smith ensured Rhiwbina took maximum points. Jacob Brennan replied for St Joseph’s. Mountain Ash saw off Glamorgan Wanderers 27-26 to stay right behind Rhiwbina, who have a game in hand.

Llandudno continue to surprise in One North as they edged past Ruthin 9-8 to stay top of the table. Nick Dundee kicked three penalties to hand Llandudno the win, but a Josh Wilson try and a Dyfan Humphreys penalty ran them close.

Pwllheli were also pushed hard but kept their perfect league record with a 17-16 win at Bala. Kevin Morris, Huw Williams and Gwilym Sion-Parry claimed the tries with Carwyn ap Myrddin kicking a conversion, which proved crucial.

Rhydian Jones claimed Bala’s sole try as Owain Aled kicked 11 points to salvage a losing bonus point.

It’s as you were in One West Central with Bonymaen top of the standings following their 29-14 win over Kenfig Hill. Sam Jones was at the double and was followed over by Ben Davies and Curtis Lynch. Jamie Williams and Tom Briggs were on the scoresheet for Kenfig.

Glynneath remain one point back thanks to their 35-0 win at Waunarlwyd­d. One West leaders Felinfoel returned to winning ways with a 33-18 win over

Gorseinon. Curtis Morris, Johnny Roberts and Eray Wilson on the scoresheet.

They lead Gowerton, who saw of Crymych 26-20, by four points.
