Rhodri on song to make it three straight for Drovers

- By CARL FIELD

LLANDOVERY battled back from behind to beat Ebbw Vale at Church Bank and make it three wins on the bounce in the Principality Premiership.

Ebbw head coach Greg Woods had called on his men to step up to the plate going into this encounter and, for an hour, they more than did that.

In fact, they looked like they were on their way to claiming a notable scalp as both sets of players braved the elements.

But, ultimately, they would have to make do with returning to Gwent with a losing bonus point as a ten-point haul for the home side in the final quarter secured a seventh win of the campaign and four more valuable points.

Fly-half Rhys Jones booted the Steelmen into a second-minute lead only for Llandovery to respond just moments later through a timely unconverted try scored by hooker Marc Jones.

Jones then kicked two more penalties in the first half – on 12 and 24 minutes respectively – as Ebbw Vale took a 9-5 advantage into the break.

That was the way it stayed until the hour mark when consistent pressure finally told.

The Drovers went over for the second try, this time scored by inside centre Rhodri Jones, with fly-half Jack Maynard duly adding the subsequent extras to make it 12-9.

Maynard then split the posts with a penalty three minutes from time to secure a hard-earned win. Star man Rhodri Jones - Llandovery
