Eddie should lead by example and show more respect

THAT Try. For heaven’s sake let’s forget it. As Owen Farrell said immediately after the game: ‘That’s not my decision. It’s for the referee and TMO.’ That’s much to Owen’s credit.

By then I had seen the re-run several times and came to the conclusion that Courtney Lawes was fractionally offside. I’m sure Owen came to the same conclusion after seeing the replays.

Sadly, on Wednesday Eddie Jones is quoted as saying: “I vow never to attend another meeting with referees.”

I know this decision had a striking affect on the game but whether we think it was or was not offside we have to be adult about it and accept the referee’s decision. What sort of example are we giving to children and new converts to the game?

We should be showing that in rugby we accept the referee’s decision without a murmur. This is creeping onto the playing field where too many players are querying the referee’s decision instead of leaving it to the captain.

What has happened to the penalty against a player who constantly queries decisions?

Come on Eddie, lead by example. RICHARD PHILLIPS Sutton Coldfield

WHETHER the Sam Underhill try should have been awarded or not is now immaterial.

The issue is the incompetency of the captain to convert either of the penalties awarded in front of the posts and then kick a restart directly into touch which resulted in a gifted penalty to the ABs.

Win the game first, then try and improve your score line. NIGEL COOTE via email
