Andrews dazzles for the Wizards in high-scoring thriller

- By TIM LEWIS

ABERAVON hammered Llanelli in a high-scoring encounter at the Talbot Athletic Ground.

Stefan Andrews, Jonathan Phillips and Ashton Evans all bagged try braces for the Wizards, but Llanelli scored five of their own to leave with a bonus point.

Home flanker Lee Purnell and Llanelli’s Ellis Thomas exchanged early scores with Chris Banfield and Ioan Hughes kicking the respective conversions.

Andrews put Aberavon back ahead and they never relinquished that lead as a penalty try and two Llanelli yellow cards for Rhys Cherry and Liam Tobias left Llanelli up against it as they went into the half-time interval 19-7 behind.

The Wizards produced a clever team move to send Andrews over for his second and their crucial fourth score at the start of the second half and Banfield converted.

Liam Hutchings crossed for Llanelli just two minutes later and the tries continued until there were just 60 seconds left.

Replacements Phillips and Evans both made big impacts off the bench with double try salvos and Banfield ended the night with six conversions.

Llanelli continued to play their part and once they were restored to 15 men they looked far more of an attacking threat.

Cherry made amends for his yellow card with a 62nd minute try before a second from Hutchings and one for Callum Evans rounded off the scoring. Star man Stefan Andrews - Aberavon
