Whites back on track after late show downs Quins

- By CARL FIELD

SWANSEA finally stopped the rot as they came out on top against Carmarthen Quins at St Helen’s to send a clear message to their relegation rivals that they will not be giving up their Principality Premiership status without a fight.

Tries in each half from scrum-half Tom Ham and left wing Ben Cambriani helped secure a welcome and much-needed morale boosting win for the Whites on the back of five straight defeats leading into it.

It was certainly a surprise result against a Quins side who had been gunning for a fourth straight win but that should take nothing away from a mammoth effort from Swansea.

And it sets them up nicely for the humdinger with Bargoed, another side who are scrapping for points, at St Helen’s next Friday night.

It was the Quins who drew first blood two minutes through outside centre Nick Reynolds, converted by fly-half Steffan Marshall.

Opposite number Steffen Williams then booted Swansea on to the scoreboard two minutes later before Marshall kicked a penalty for the visitors.

Ham was then over for Swansea’s first try, converted by Williams who also kicked another penalty but it was Quins, after being awarded a penalty try, who led 17-13 at the break.

That was the way it stayed until ten minutes from time when Cambriani went over, unconverted, before replacement Luke Griffiths’ late penalty. Star man Matt Dodd - Swansea
