Macc get knifed as Park edge a thriller

MACCLESFIE­LD came into this one with high hopes but slipped to defeat.

Macc got off to the better start with an early turnover leading to Harry Blackwell scoring in the first minute but Sedge hit back straight away with Andy Riley on the end of Steve Collins’ chip.

Macclesfie­ld then dominated possession and territory, winning maul penalties in the 22 until Sam Parry scored in the corner.

The visitors again came back and Matt Riley powered over in the corner after his side had kicked a penalty to touch

On the stroke of halftime, Dafydd Rees peeled off the back of a maul giving an inside ball to Sam Stelmazsek who went through the gap to put Macc 17-14 up at the break.

Sedgley came out all guns blazing and Sam

Lowthian crossed on 45 minutes but that fired the hosts up as Billy Robinson charged down Callum McShane’s box kick and Stelmaszek again went over for a 24-19 lead.

Macclesfie­ld had to weather a massive storm from Sedgley and but for last-ditch tackles from Billy Wara and Tom Mantell they would have punched in sooner but the pressure eventually told as Lowthian got his second for 26-24.

Macc rallied and Sam Broster’s kick to the corner trapped Riley but the referee blew for full-time before they could attempt to maul for the win.
