Guest stars as battling Drovers edge heated local derby

- By RICHARD GRIFFITHS

LLANDOVERY won the west Wales bragging rights in an ill-disciplined local derby against Llanelli at Parc Y Scarlets.

A penalty try plus tries from Aaron Warren and Ricky Guest was enough to get the Drovers over the line. Llanelli scored two tries of their own courtesy of Elliott Rees and Leon Randall.

It was Llanelli who opened the scoring when powerful No. 8 Rees powered his way over from short range. But Llandovery always looked dangerous when they went wide and got their just rewards when left-wing Warren crossed at the corner.

Jack Maynard edged Llandovery back into the lead with a successful penalty before the Drovers were awarded a penalty try due to their dominant scrum.

Llanelli were reduced to 12 men in the space of 10 minutes with Chris Long, Ellis Thomas and Joel James sent to the sin bin for infringements at the breakdown with Llandovery applying pressure on the home sides try line.

And the visitors took full advantage of their numerical advantage when Guest crossed from short range with Maynard converting.

Full-back Randall brought Llanelli back into the game when he showed his pace to cross at the corner. Llandovery were then forced to see out the game with 14 men as No 8 Richard Brooks was shown a red card for taking a player out in the air. Star man Ricky Guest - Llandovery
