Marshall penalty puts end to Joe’s long run

RHIWBINA’S eight-game winning run in East Central was halted after going down 14-13 at St Joseph’s.

Lee Marshall booted a penalty in the dying seconds to snatch victory having trailed 10-0 after tries in each half from Kris Richards. Marshall then kicked the first of three penalties before Lewis Pearce split the posts to restore the 10-point lead.

Another Marshall penalty which was followed by an Augustine Clark try for Joes, but Marshall had the final say from the tee for their third straight win. For second placed Rhiwbina, it was their first league defeat since September and meant they slipped 12 points back on leaders

Glamorgan Wanderers – who themselves put in a five-star performanc­e to beat Mountain Ash 31-17. Wing Phil Pariyo’s hat-trick led the way, with Rob Brookson and Rob Evans also dotting down.

Rumney’s game at Treorchy was postponed and that allowed Dinas Powys, who beat Llantrisan­t 24-19, to move above them. Jack Maynard was at the double in a bonus-point win for Dinas with Carwyn Jones and Finlay Davies their other try scorers. Elsewhere, Bridgend

Athletic won 26-15 at home against Porth Harlequins. In One East, leaders Brecon’s game at Ynysybwl was called off and that allowed Penallta to move level on points with them thanks to a crushing 55-15 home win over Cwmbran. The other game to beat the weather was at Hartridge, where Caerleon left with a 21-16 win.

In One West, it’s now 15 defeats from 15 for basement boys Tenby United after they lost 25-17 at home against Aberystwyt­h. Whitland were 27-12 winners over Llangennec­h while the only game to go ahead in One West Central saw Bonymaen triumph 1913 at Kenfig Hill. And in One North there were wins for Llangefni over Bro Ffestiniog, 42-7, and Bala

beat Pwllheli 22-21.
