Moyle’s double climbs Pirates to third

- By LUKE JARMYN

PIRATES full-back Kyle Moyle slid over on the final play to grab his second try and seal a tough comeback bonus point win to go third in the table.

Richmond, who haven’t won in the league since October, waned after starting well, continuing the story of their season. They now face a must-win clash against bottom of the table Hartpury on Friday night.

Pirates coach Gavin Cattle said: “It’s the mental side of things we’ve been touching upon and we need to win these sort of games if we want to challenge the top boys.

“It was no shock we were down at half-time, especially with our error count as it was. After half-time we just tried to wear them down.”

Richmond started with a real edge against the wind and prop Will GoodrickClarke dotted down from a driving maul.

Pirates openside Matt Bolwell tackled scrum-half Luc Jones in the air to earn a sin-bin and the kick to corner led to lock Will Warden scoring.

Pirates blindside Josh Caulfield hacked through to score against the run of play and Richmond couldn’t execute.

The game was poised evenly until a recycled ball allowed wing Matt Evans to edge over before Moyle went past two defenders to score and grabbed the bonus-point in the last play.

Richmond coach Steve Hill said: “The players are frustrated we conceded points at the end of the game as we’re working hard to not do that.”
