Hat-trick hero Gee inspires Ironmen to comeback

- By CARL FIELD

TERI Gee inspired Merthyr as they returned to winning ways in the Principality Premiership at Bridgend.

Right wing Gee helped himself to a hat-trick as the double defending champions ran out bonus-point winners to maintain their position at the top of the table – and saw them bounce back from defeat at Aberavon.

Merthyr were left stunned 40-10 on their last visit to the Morganstone Brewery Field back in 2016 and, after Ravens full-back Caine Woolerton touched down for the game’s opening try after only 58 seconds, hopes were raised that Matt Silva’s side could pull off something similar.

Jamie Murphy converted and the fly-half then split the posts with a penalty on 10 minutes to put the hosts 10-0 up.

But then came the expected charge from Merthyr. No.8 Phil Rees got them on the scoreboard with an unconverted try after 17 minutes before two quickfire tries from Gee in the space of three minutes around the half-hour mark.

Richard Powell converted the third try to put the visitors 17-10 in front, but the sides would go in level at the break with skipper Nathan Edwards scoring a second Bridgend try on the stroke of half-time, this time converted by Ryan Evans.

With the match perfectly poised, Gee completed his treble ten minutes into the second half with Powell once again taking care of the extras. Star man Teri Gee- Merthyr
