Ravens enjoy away day success despite sin-bin troubles

- By HUW JONES

BRIDGEND defied two yellow cards to record their first win at Church Bank for 11 years and the result could yet prove crucial to their hopes of Principality Premiership survival.

It was a huge, huge victory for Matt Silva’s side who scored through Owen Thomas and Geraint Roberts before Nathan Edwards sealed victory late on.

The Ravens lost Jordan Collier and Ryan Evans – who kicked two conversions – to the sin-bin in either half, but still came out on top.

Llandovery went to the break three points to the good despite their far superior league position before kick-off. Jack Maynard opened the scoring for the Drovers with a penalty and the effort took the fly-half – one of the Premiership’s most reliable performers – past 200 points for the season.

Bridgend hit back when a flowing backs move ended in man of the match Thomas finishing in the corner. Evans converted.

Llandovery moved in front at the half-time whistle thanks to a penalty try and Collier was yellowcarded for pulling down the maul in an attempt to stop the score.

The Drovers failed to score after the break. In the 50th minute Bridgend fullback Roberts was bundled over the line and Evans converted again.

When Evans was yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on, Drovers had a chance, but the Ravens held on before Edwards’ late try. Star man Owen Thomas - Bridgend
