- By JAY BAYFORD

BRECON displayed their One East title credentials with an eye-widening 34-19 victory over reigning champions Brynmawr.

Geraint Workman, Lewys Cooke, Jonathon James, Richie Davies and Sam Campbell all dotted down as Brecon extended their perfect league record to 13 games.

Dean Gunter added the rest from the tee.

They now lead Brynmawr by nine points but sit second in the table following

Penallta’s 44-0 victory over Hartridge.

Laurence Pritchard notched 19 points with Luke Purnell (2), Shaun Powell, Pat Lewis and Ryan Davies all touching down.

The victory means the Pitmen are level on points with Brecon but have played a game more. Bonymaen kept their title ambitions alive with a 23-10 triumph over leaders Ystalyfera in a One West Central top-of-the-table clash.

Nathan Brooks and Sam Jones went over while Richard Cunniffe booted 13 points to secure a crucial victory.

Bowdy Davies replied for the leaders with Steff James kicking the other points.

The result means the two sides are now separated by just five points.

There was a battle at the bottom as well with Tondu beating Waunarlwydd 21-6 to distance themselves from the drop. Sam Grabham was at the double for the Waterwheelers with Paul Smithson also going over.

The One North title race was blown wide open following Llandudno’s 18-7 defeat at Bala – their first in the league this season. Pwllheli edged past Bro Ffestiniog 12-11 to close the gap to just a point but Bala,

Ruthin and Nant Conwy are all now within six points of the summit, although the top two have games in hand.

Felinfoel remain in full control in One West after their 24-6 win at Tenby

United although Gowerton’s 18-14 win at Llanelli

Wanderers kept the gap at 15 points.
