Headache for Chester as Dacey dashes in for four

- By STEVE SMITH

CHESTER'S promotion push faltered as they were convincingly beaten on the road by Hinckley at Leicester Road.

Four tries from the sensational Callum Dacey, which takes the winger’s tally for the season to 14, more than pleased Hinckley director of rugby George Chuter.

“He’s one of the best attackers in the league, so we're pleased he has started to find this sort of form,” said former England hooker Chuter.

“He could have got five today, but we’re very pleased with his and the team’s performance today."

Hinckley took just two minutes to open the scoring with Dacey finishing off a wonderful move from the backs and Joe Wilson converting.

The electric speedster then doubled his tally two minutes later, collecting a wonderful offload to dive over in the corner.

Wilson converted superbly to make it 14-0 after four minutes.

And, despite chances for both sides, that is how the scoreline stayed heading into half-time.

Dacey then completed his hat-trick after 50 minutes, with Wilson again converting.

Chester finally got on the scoreboard on the hour mark through No.8 Shay Owen, with James Robins adding the extras at 21-7.

But any chance of a late comeback was halted by Dacey, as the winger intercepted to go the length of the pitch and add his fourth five minutes from full-time, with Wilson again converting.

Hinckley had time for a fifth, with Josh Smith's score in the corner being superbly converted from the touchline by Wilson to make it 35-7.

The result pleased Chuter but also left him a little bit frustrated.

“It’s good to get revenge after a rather embarrassing result at their place,” he said.

“We’ve overcome a very good team convincingly, which I knew we were more than capable of. Now, it’s all about finding that consistency.

“It’s a bit annoying because, if we’d played like that every week, we’d probably be higher in the table.

“That’s why it’s impor-

tant we take this into our next game and play with the same energy from now until the end of the season."

Meanwhile, the result left Chester director of dugby Jan van Deventer gutted as their promotion bid continues to falter on the road, with Deventer ruing basic errors.

“We simply have to be better away from home because it’s going to cost us,” he said. “We were under par across the board today.

“Too many basic errors against a Hinckley side who looked there for the taking has cost us massively.

“But we’re in the back end of the season now and we simply can’t feel sorry for ourselves.

“We need to get on with it and bounce back next Saturday.”
