Temm’s injury time winner rounds off 12-try thriller
A STUNNING last-play score from Dan Temm earned Yorkshire Carnegie a thrilling victory in a 12try classic.
It was the first and only time Carnegie led on the night and thrilled man-ofthe-match Chris Elder said: “We got on top of them a little bit and they got back on top and that’s what makes rugby so exciting.
“You can see the smiles on our faces when we converted right at the end. That’s why you love rugby.”
Handbags at a scrum enabled Bedford to kick to the corner with Jacob Fields being driven over on seven minutes and Jake Sharp converting.
Backchat after another penalty enabled Sharp’s long-distance kick to make it 10-0, before Carnegie hit back through a penalty try after repeated infringements with Sean McCarthy being sin-binned.
Carnegie’s Miles Thoroughgood immediately followed him after tacking out Rich Lane in the air and Bedford had their second try moments later following Jarad Williams’ brilliant break and unselfish feed to Dean Adamson for an unconverted score.
A lovely Carnegie move ended in an Elder fumble before a huge maul saw Huw Worthington driven over for another unconverted try on the half-hour, while Harry Worley’s mesmerising break was ended just short of the line.
Joe Buckle was sinbinned early in the second half for a lineoiut offence as Worthington grabbed his second try on 50 minutes.
Carnegie responded as Elder burst through several tackles to score on the right with faultless Jade Te Rure converting.
A sloppy turnover enabled Elijah Niko to bludgeon his way on the hour, only for Sharp to stretch Bedford lead with a 64thminute penalty.
Peter Lucock streaked through moments later before Josh Bainbridge was sin-binned for an aerial clash in a tetchy encounter.
Rich Lane’s electric break was chipped on by Ryan Hutler for James Lennon to score, with Sharp on target, before Niko spilled a crossfield kick backwards for Antonio Kiri Kiri to slide over.
Bedford restored their lead as Tadgh McElroy rounded off a catch-and-drive, Sharp converting.
From the restart Niko almost scored immediately with Te Rure adding a penalty to get the visitors within a score as, remarkably, in the sixth minute of stoppage time Temm rounded off a wonderful team move to win it.
Worley said: “It is frustrating. We built up quite a good lead and we’re quite unlucky not to come away with a win.”
