Hinckley suffer as Park run in early hat-trick

- By MARK SLEIGHTHOLM

SEDGLEY Park led from the start to secure a bonus point win.

Three early tries put them in charge, before Hinckley had found their rhythm, and Ben Pointon’s response just before halftime was not enough to give the Hornets a way back into the game.

Richard Lepori and Bob Birtwell scored in an otherwise cagey second half to win the bonus point for Sedgley, who move ahead of Hinckley in the table.

Only a point separated the sides going into the match, with Hinckley just ahead in sixth place, but the result leaves Hinckley without a win on the road in four matches.

Sedgley started the game on the attack, with Sam Lowthion scoring two minutes in, and Lepori doubling the score four minutes later.

Steve Collins was unable to convert either try, his second attempt bouncing off the left post, but he managed it for Danny Maher’s try 25 minutes in.

Pointon got one back for Hinckley nine minutes from half-time, with Joe Wilson’s conversion inspiring a stronger attack from the visitors leading up to the break.

They kicked off the second half with three points from a penalty, but neither side was able to put on a sustained attack.

That was until Lepori and Birtwell scored in the final 20 minutes, with both of the tries converted by Collins.
