Moriarty open to offers after Jackman departure

- By ALEX BYWATER

ROSS Moriarty has revealed he would one day consider a move to France as continuing off-the-field uncertainty surrounds Welsh rugby.

The Wales No.8 – who has helped Warren Gatland’s side to within two games of a first Six Nations Grand Slam since 2012 – signed for the underachieving Dragons from Gloucester in the summer.

Ahead of Wales’ clash with Scotland on Saturday, Gatland’s star players are stuck in limbo as the Welsh Rugby Union and the four regions remain locked in talks over Project Reset.

That is the system by which Welsh rugby will be run moving forwards. Moriarty, below, has 29 caps and will be a key man at the World Cup, but the lure of French rugby does appeal.

“I have to keep on playing to impress, that’s the key thing for me,” he told

The Rugby Paper. “I want to keep producing the goods, but I haven’t been around much at the Dragons before the autumn and now it’s the Six Nations.

“When I go back to the Dragons I want to carry on playing well. If you do that as a player then clubs come to you and I wouldn’t rule out playing for a team in France. We will see what happens.”

Despite his impressive Test form, Moriarty has failed to lift the Dragons from the lower reaches of the PRO14. He wasn’t helped by a spell on the sidelines due to concussion in December.

The Rodney Parade outfit parted company with head coach Bernard Jackman midway through the current season and caretaker boss Ceri Jones is in charge until the end of the campaign.

“I haven’t played much rugby for the Dragons this year,” said Moriarty. “When I signed they really wanted me, so I was disappointed when Bernard left especially because he hadn’t lost the dressing room.”
