Welsh Plate / Bowl round-up

BRYNMAWR’S defence of the Plate is over after a 27-12 defeat to Treorchy.

Zach Stuart added to a penalty try for ‘Mawr but the Zebras ran in four tries to secure a stunning upset.

Liam Lloyd and Jacob Lloyd both grabbed a brace while Jacob’s brother Jordan Lloyd wrapped things up with from the tee.

Brecon and Penallta are now the favourites to take Brynmawr’s crown and are also challenging each other to claim the One East title – also currently held by Brynmawr.

Unbeaten league leaders Brecon marched into the semi-finals with a 31-19 victory over Nelson.

Jake Crockett (2), Aaron Taylor and Cameron Gardner scored with Dean Gunter adding all four conversions and a penalty. Nelson hit back with Zach Pearce and Jared Walters tries.

Penallta, who won the Plate for a second time two years ago, are also in the last four following a 26-17 triumph over 2011 runnersup Glynneath.

Corey Tucker, Lewis Alexander, Pat Lewis and Laurence Pritchard all touched down with the latter adding three conversions to boost the tally.

Bonymaen make up the final four after a 7-3 win over Cambrian Welfare and are the only representatives left from the west. Meanwhile, Nantgaredig edged past Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd 19-14 to claim their place in the last four of the Bowl.

Nant were beaten 19-10 by Cardiff University at this stage last season but pulled out all the stops to see off 2014 champions.

Lloyd Williams kicked with four penalties along with the conversion to George Gleeson’s try.

Division Three East A leaders Oakdale are also one step away from the final thanks to David Tovey, Jordan Wall and Kyle Tudge tries in a 15-3 win over Aberaeron. Abergavenny, who trail Oakdale by two points in the league, edged past Penygraig 18-17 while Bridgend Sports saw off Pontyclun 35-13.
