Bournemouth clinch it with four to play

South West Premier

-

BOURNEMOUTH were crowned champions with four games remaining.

They topped off an almost perfect season, which has seen them win 21 of their 22 games, by beating Exmouth 41-10.

Two Grant Hancox penalties gave the leaders an early advantage before their visitors responded in a close opening 30 minutes.

Sam Hardcastle then went over for a maiden try to give them a 13-3 lead at the break.

Exmouth sensed they could spoil the party as they pulled back to three points with a runaway try.

However, Bournemouth responded with Scott Chislett, Joe Rees and Ben Roberts all running over before Hardcastle wrapped up the title with his second score.

Despite the title being decided, the second playoff position is still to be taken.

Leading the way are Barnstaple who returned to winning ways with a 2112 victory over challengers Ivybridge.

It took them 22 minutes to take the lead when Kevin Angell crossed to give them a 7-0 lead at the break.

Ivybridge responded with a score before George Snell regained the lead.

Following a flurry of yellow cards, Will Lamont pulled Ivybridge back to two points, only for a penalty to secure the win.

Maidenhead sit just

three points behind the play-off spot following a 2715 victory at Old Patesians.

Skipper Andy Berry put the promotion chasers ahead before Old Pats responded following a series of penalties.

Maids hit back, with Mike Davies crossing to give them a 10-5 lead at the break but despite playing up the hill in the second half, Dave Cole powered his side further ahead before Rod Muil and Dylan Baptista scored to seal it.

Bracknell continued their climb up the league with a 25-22 victory over

Exeter University, with Cam Macdonald, Ken Dowding and Simon Bayliss crossing for the hosts. Weston-super-Mare piled further misery on second-bottom Newton Abbot as they put them to the sword with a 74-17 victory. Elsewhere, Camborne beat Cleve 46-15 while Drybrook won at Brixham 17-10.
