Hawks boys get on their bikes for Comben

-

HENLEY HAWKS players are preparing for a gruelling 600 mile bike ride in memory of their friend and team mate James Comben, who sadly lost his battle with cancer at the end of last year aged just 29.

Hawks player Simon Perry and a number of fellow Hawks and former Hawks including centre Tom Allen and his brother, former England centre Anthony, will cycle across the country stopping at various National 1 and 2 rugby clubs, starting at the end of May.

Perry said: “Tom Allen and I played with James for a combined total of over 14 years and we felt it would be a fitting tribute to dedicate a charity cycle ride to his memory and raise money for the charity that supported him and his family through his courageous fight, Bloodwise.

“Our other charity partner that we wish to support is the well known rugby charity, Restart. Also joining us for this epic ride will be Tom’s brother, ex-Leicester Tigers and England centre, Anthony Allen with guest appearances from other Tigers/ex-players.”

They are starting in Cornwall and crossing the country to Kent before a big party at Henley RFC.

“We’ve played all over the country in the National Leagues with Henley so we have come up with a custom route to incorporate as many clubs as possible along our route, which runs from the furthest west in Redruth, to the furthest east in Canterbury, before a grand finale at Henley Rugby Club.

“The total distance is over 650 miles covered in six days, a challenge as arduous as the famous Lands End to John O’Groats ride, but with a rugby twist.”

They begin on May 27 in Redruth and finish in Henley on Saturday June 1.

They are raising money for Bloodwise and have a target of £10,000. To support this cause please visit: www.justgiving.com/fundr aising/rideforcombo
