Devastating spell from Delguy puts Pumas in control

-

WING Bautista Delguy scored four quick tries in a second-half blitz as England’s World Cup Pool opponents Argentina thumped Sydney club side

Randwick 74-0 in their final warm-up game.

Coach Mario Ledesma had the chance to face a Pacific nation in a full Test but opted for Randwick after a taxing year that saw the Jaguares reach the Super Rugby final.

“Glad to have no injuries,” Ledesma said. “That’s the main one and giving the opportunity to everybody.”

A strong Pumas side took time to get going with Randwick holding them scoreless until the 18th minute. Tomas Cubelli broke the deadlock by touching down off a scrum and it opened the floodgates, with Argentina piling on 12 tries for an easy victory.

Julian Montoya, Juan Manuel Leguizamon, Marcos Kremer and Santiago Carreras all crossed before the break, with Nahuel Tetaz Chapparo adding another soon after the restart.

Replacement Delguy then scored four tries in ten minutes as the Randwick defence was blown apart, with former captain Agustin Creevy and Ramiro Moyano adding the final two.

Argentina went down 24-18 to an experimental South African side in Pretoria in their last Test – their ninth straight defeat since beating Australia a year ago.

Russia lost 42-14 to Connacht. Tries from Tom Daly and Darragh Leader gave Connacht a 14-0 lead with Russia captain Vasily Artemyev responding for 14-7 at half-time.

Denis Buckley’s try extended the lead but Russia, in Pool A at the World Cup, fought back with a try by German Davydov. Stephen Fitzgerald added two more and Paul Boyle grabbed Connacht’s sixth. Namibia, in RWC Pool B,

beat Southern Kings 21-17.
