Royle is the Caldy flier with a double

- ■ By STEVE SMITH

NICK Royle scored a double as Caldy got their season off to a flying start with a bonus-point win on their travels against Hinckley.

They took their chances in a dominant first half before frustrating Hinckley in the second period.

It took Caldy just three minutes to open the tryscoring ,with centre Gavin Roberts breaking through from halfway to touch down in wondrous style, before adding the extras himself.

A penalty from full-back Joe Wilson reduced the deficit before a try from winger Royle, who finished in the corner, pushed Caldy nine points clear after just 14 explosive minutes of the new season.

Royle grabbed his next try before the break, intercepting and running the length of the pitch to touch down, with Roberts converting before slotting a penalty to give his side a more-than-healthy 22-6 lead at the break.

Hinckley dominated possession in the second half but conceded a try on the counter-attack, with scrumhalf

Cameron Davies dotting down after a pick-and-go to secure the try-scoring bonus point, with Roberts again successfull in converting for a commanding 29-6 lead.

Hinckley did get a deserved consolation try through Alex Tansley when the No.8 broke from halfway to finish between the posts, with Glover converting but it was too little, too late.

For Caldy, down from National One at the end of last season, it’s a strong start as they attempt to bounce back at the first attempt, that quest resumes next week at home to Chester - on Sunday at Paton Field.
