Poor old South get three-figure thumping

-

BOURNVILLE got their campaign off to an emphatic start with a huge 119-0 home victory over South Leicester.

Mark Coulson got them underway, crossing early before a flurry of tries enabled them to secure their bonus point with just 12 minutes played against South, relegated from National Two last term.

Tries were coming from all over the field as they ran riot against helpless opposition and they ran up a 62-0 lead at half-time.

Winger Ethan Walker was a threat throughout and secured his hat-trick early in the second half.

Drew Harper was a hattrick hero for Bromsgrove as they disposed of another relegated side in the shape of Peterborough

Lions 49-5.

Tom Sadler, George Anphlett, Josh Holt and Tom Millen also crossed or the hosts, while Joe Hunt added the extras with some fine kicking.

It could have been more for Bromsgrove, who were 25-0 ahead at the break, despite having had a try disallowed.

Last season’s third-place team, Newport (Salop), also showed they have been hard at work during the summer running away with a 33-8 victory at Kettering to secure a bonus-point victory.

Sam Evans scored a double while further tries came courtesy of Joe Nixon, Alex Hayes and Ryan Crowley.

Newport’s director of rugby, Bob Adams was delighted.

He said: “It was a decent team performance and we took our chances well.

“It was a pleasing performance for our first game of the season and there is lots to work on. The defensive performance was pleasing as well.”

Despite finishing in a high league position last term, Broadstreet suffered an opening day defeat at Sandbach, who ran out 37-24 winners.

Elliot Morris scored a couple of tries for the onform visitors while Nick Allsop and Ross Sutherland also scored, along with a penalty try.

Paviors made an impressive start to life in the division as they got up and running with a win.

They recorded a 31-17 win in their Premier debut following a strong performance at Burton, in a match they were always leading.

Meanwhile, Nuneaton proved far too strong for

Doncaster as they ran out 32-12 victors.

And in the final match of the day Phoenix and

Sheffield were also victorious as they recorded a 32-11 success away to Bridgnorth.
