Impressive victory is founded on defence

- By CHRISTIAN EVANS

FYLDE continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a comprehensive victory at the Woodlands.

The hosts raced out of the blocks and quickly earned a 7-0 lead thanks to a try from Adam Lewis in the first minute

It wasn’t long before the Fylde faithful got to see a second with an explosive break from Tom Grimes finished off by Tom Carleton to extend the advantage to 12-0.

Huddersfield eventually found their footing and got on the board thanks to a penalty from Will Milner.

In the end that proved to be as close as Huddersfield got with Ben Gregory adding a third Fylde try to send the hosts into the interval with a 19-3 lead.

The second half became a runaway affair for the hosts as Connor Wilkinson added two tries in succession before Alex Loney crashed over from a maul to leave the visitors dejected 40-3 down.

Elliot Horner was sent to the sin bin in the dying minutes for Fylde and Huddersfield added a late

consolation try through Callum Thompson but it couldn’t derail a superb day at the office for Fylde who ran out more than comfortabe winners.

The home side have been prioritising defence improvements this season, and it was obvious on the pitch that the hard work done in training is starting to pay off.

Fylde head coach Warren Spragg was delighted by the performance of his side on the day.

He said: “We’re trying to get a better identity and if you can stop good teams scoring, you’ve got a chance so we’re very happy with this one.”
