Unstoppable Quins ease past toothless Sharks

- By TOM BULMER

DMP Sharks .... 21 Harlequins ...... 50

HARLEQUINS maintained their perfect start to the season with a bonus point win at the Northern Echo Arena to underline their fast start to the new season.

The visitors ran in eight tries in an impressive performance, with the hosts falling just shy of a trybonus point on an afternoon in which they were outclassed by a side with ambitions of finishing the season with a piece of silverware.

Harlequins were not waiting around here and the match was almost swen up within 20 minutes.

The first half was dominated by the Harlequins forwards, with three tries coming from driving mauls inside the opening quarter.

Each came from a lineout close to the DMP line, with the Sharks having no answer to the Quinn’s catch and drive game.

The trio of tries was punctuated by an interception try for Beth Blacklock, but Quins tied up their try bonus point through Chloe Rollie shortly before the break as she beat two defenders to cross following some impressive work by Shaunagh Brown.

The half time score of 726 was testimony to the strength of the visitors forward play and they did not relent after the break.

Quins forward dominance continued in the second 40, as Brown powered over for her 5th of the season.

The visitors had their sixth try soon after through a well-taken try for Heather Cowell.

The hosts responded well however, and had their second try via a series of pick and go’s, before Brown notched her sixth try of the season for the away side.

The hosts closed in on a try bonus of their own after a penalty try, but the leaders had the final day with a well worked score out wide.

The league leaders now face a home game against Bristol Bears, while the Sharks travel to Richmond.
