Hull pay the price for a first half of fumbles

Hull .................. 24 Sedgley Park 27

- By RICHARD GORE

HULL again rebounded from a difficult start to come within a whisker of beating Sedgley.

They found Sedgley in unforgiving mood in a first half where Hull made a number of handling errors.

A penalty by fly-half Steve Collins gave Sedgley an early lead.

With both sides kicking for position, the game entered a period of stalemate until Sedgley winger Leon Simpson touched down in the corner with Collins adding the extras.

A similar effort gave Olli Glasse a try, again converted by Collins.

Hull were refreshed by the arrival of back-row Tom O'Donnell and prop Charlie Beech after 30 minutes. They produced a good catch-and-drive with the try awarded to Laurence Cowan.

They came out with real intent in the second half and made good use of a penalty, which led to hooker Ali Thompson going over.

Sedgley responded with a drop goal from scrumhalf Callum McShane to see his side 20-10 ahead, but Hull scored next with a

quality try as full-back Reece Dean broke and started the move from which scrum-half Harvey Harding, backing up, went over for a score converted by Dean.

Hull then conceded possession from the kick-off and Sedgley kept the ball to allow their No.8 Tom Ailes to crash over, with scrum half-turned-off-half Callum McShane converting

Hull are never done till the whistle and they surged forward.

Another forward drive led to prop Charlie Beech getting the touchdown, with Dean converting as they finished with a welcome bonus point.
