Five-star Bridge on a roll as they go top

- By CARL FIELD

Welsh Division One round-up

NEWBRIDGE moved back to the top of the One East table after seeing off Senghenydd 33-5.

Jakob Duffy, Luke Morgan, Izaak Duffy, Jimmy Gahan and Sam Watkins grabbed the tries in a five-star performance with four conversions from the boot of Eamonn Rees.

The win takes Newbridge, who are bidding to return to the National Championship at the first time of asking, a point above also unbeaten Brecon.

Champions Brecon, though, now do now have a game in hand after their scheduled game at Dowlais was postponed.

The only other game to beat the weather in that division yesterday was in the late kick-off at Ystrad Mynach where Penallta saw off Bedlinog 24-13 to move up into third spot.

Felinfoel returned to the summit in One West after getting the better of leaders

Llangennech 22-15. But Newcastle Emlyn, who inflicted a first defeat of the season on Felinfoel in their own backyard a fortnight ago, remain just a point behind with a game in hand on both Foel and Llanegennch – who slip to third.

Emlyn left it late at Clwb Rygbi yr Hendy with Dean James’ try with the last play converted by Shaun Leonard securing a 16-12 win and a seventh win out of seven.

In One West Central, Bonymaen bounced back from two recent setbacks to win 12-8 against Dunvant.

Bony had been stunned at home by bottom side Ammanford a fortnight ago and then knocked out of the National Plate by Brecon last weekend. Newly promoted Birchgrove made it five wins from seven as they triumphed 17-0 at Skewen.

The ever-reliable Mathew Edwards converted his own try plus that of Adam Percival and also kicked a penalty.

Meanwhile Aled Evans’ try plus three Jack O’Reilly penalties steered Glynneath to a 14-0 home win over Ammanford.
