Tyro Luke aiming to emulate his hero Biggar
LUKE Scully hopes he can follow in the footsteps of his childhood hero Dan Biggar after confirming his return to Welsh rugby.
The Wales U20 fly-half will join Cardiff Blues from Worcester Warriors for the start of next season as he looks to progress his career.
And the 19-year-old from Banwen in Neath sees himself as a playmaker in the mould of Wales pivot Biggar.
“Dan was my idol growing up and he’s someone I model my game on,” Scully,
below, told The Rugby
Paper. “I did a few kicking sessions with him as a youngster. He’s a great player with great game management and I love the way he plays rugby.
“He’s a control freak really and his game management is superb. Growing up I was an Ospreys supporters so naturally Dan was someone I wanted to be like.
“Some of my friends have given me a bit of stick for joining Cardiff but they are happy for me. I love the kicking game and game management is a big thing for me. I like to play the corners.”
Scully is excited about linking up with the Blues where he will compete with Wales squad member Jarrod Evans for the No10 shirt.
He believes John Mulvihill’s side have one of the best back divisions in the PRO14. “I’m really excited to come back to Wales to play for Cardiff Blues,” he said. “The Blues have got a really good back-line with some great players.
“It’s about trying to take as much knowledge from them as I can and I’m excited to learn off the likes of Jarrod.
“It’s an amazing backline. The attacking strength the Blues have got is unbelievable, but what’s really exciting is the fact that most of them are still really young.
“In two or three years they could be unstoppable, so from my point of view it’s really good to be going somewhere like that.”
