DARLINGTON Mowden Park emphatically registered their first win over visitors Sale FC on an icecold day in the North East.

The visitors found the home backs too hot to handle in an entertaining game at the Darlington Arena, although they scored a creditable two tries in an entertaining game.

Mowden registered first when lock Joe Craggs scored, with Warren Seals converting. Sale fly-half Christopher Johnson replied with a penalty, before home winger Brandon Asher-Wood chipped over the Sale defence and gathered for the score.

Sale deservedly hit back before the break, with a superb winger’s try down the line by Jack Moorhouse, converted by Johnson.

Sale had no response to Mowden’s power and pace on resumption of play and hard-working flanker Tom Marshall capped a fine game with a score after only three minutes of the restart, Seals converting.

Mowden moved through the gears after a break out of defence involved Asher-Wood and lock Max Davies who powered his way from 30 metres out.

Player of the Match, Mowden full-back Chris McTurk was next to register with a try to forge the hosts further ahead, as Sale looked all in.

This was evident in the next score for the home side, when McTurk seemed to have over-kicked his trademark chip and chase, only to find Sale defenders too lax as he dotted down for his brace as they tried to let the ball run out.

Sale rallied for a consolation score, with replacement Ameliano Calle Rivas finishing things.
