Right-Royle showing has Ravers rocking on

- ■ By JOHN LYON

Caldy .............. 103 Scunthorpe ...... 0

NICK Royle scored four times as Caldy ran in a scintillating 17 tries against a struggling Scunthorpe side at Paton Field.

The runaway league leaders were rampant as they outmuscled, outhought and outpaced the deflated visitors, who lie well adrift at the foot of the table.

However, despite some of the dazzling footwork and interplay between the Caldy backs and the power of the pack, typified by man of the match Jack Collister, a young and inexperienced Scunthorpe side battled valiantly throughout.

They were playing against a vastly more experienced and powerful outfit, but their heads never dropped despite first-half tries from Royle, Lewis Barker, Josiah Dickinson, Martin Gerrard, Michael Cartmill, Thomas Cornall and two from wing Gavin Roberts.

And that left them trailing 54-0 at the interval after a half in which they were forced to play against a potent wind.

And while they never threw in the towel, three further scores from a resurgent Royle and ruthless efforts from Nyle Davidson, Ryen Spencer-Wolfe, Cameron Davies, Rhys Hayes, Cartmill and Cornall saw the hosts inflict a heavy defeat on the strugglers.

There was much to admire in Caldy’s rugby and some personal landmarks were reached, as Royle’s stunning four tries took him to an impressive haul of 301 National league tries.

The winger was in rampant form throughout the encounter, with captain Dickinson also notching his 100th try for the club as his clinical Caldy side moved yet another step closer to the league title.
