Jarrod enjoying new voice in Wales camp

- ■ By STEFFAN THOMAS

WALES haven’t had the best of times in the Six Nations, but Jarrod Evans hopes his first taste of championship action can help boost Cardiff Blues’ PRO14 play-off charge.

The 23-year-old outsidehalf has made three appearances off the bench in this year’s tournament and has impressed on each occasion despite his team losing twice.

Wales are out of title contention after back-to-back defeats to Ireland and France, but Evans, below, believes his experiences will aid both his own game and that of the Blues.

“This tournament is the most I’ve been involved with Wales,” said Evans. “I’ve really enjoyed my time and I’ve enjoyed working under these coaches as well. It’s been nice to have a new voice.

“I feel like my game has come on and whether I’m with Wales or back at my region, I try and take that into each game. I’m just enjoying the exposure at the moment.”

Wales face the daunting task of a trip to Twickenham on Saturday to face an England side who brushed Ireland aside with ease last Sunday to remain in contention for the championship.

Should he get selected it will be Evans’ first time playing at the home of English rugby and insists it is a challenge he will relish.

“England have gone pretty well – there is a lot of consistency in their side and I don’t think they change the way they play,” Evans said.

“We know what’s coming from them – especially with their power game at home. It’s all about how we weather that first 20 minutes because they are going to come at us pretty hard.

“Twickenham is a pretty cool ground to go and play at. As a team we are trying to build and build as much as we can to try and turn these losses into wins.

“I feel we are creating a fair bit. If we had taken our opportunities against France the game could have gone the other way.”
