Whenever play resumes, listen to Hewett
THE RFU released their ‘return to rugby roadmap’ last week, concerning the return of the community game.
It shows there has been a shake-up to development. For example, the Kids First courses have all been amalgamated into a one-day course. It looks like the majority of content on courses is going to be delivered via ELearning and Webinars in the foreseeable feature.
There is no date for local matches to restart due to us only being at stage ‘B’ on the return to rugby map.
This means that currently we can only exercise within a small group (up to six) and maintain social distancing, no face to face close contact, along with equipment sharing kept to a minimum.
It looks like the community game won’t be playing again for a very long time.
When it does resume, Chris Hewett (June 28) is correct when he states, “The only sector not in a state of arrested development is strength and conditioning-something of a growth industry.” Players have become too bulky.
They should have a balance of abilities but players feel obliged to get as big as possible thinking that the bigger teams win, but this is not always the case.
I just hope the women’s game does not take a turn like the men’s.
