Cut again, Sweeney and Jones!
WE are told that the 149 redundancies announced by the RFU will be shared across the the workforce, but there are fears that the community administration will again bear the brunt of the cuts.
Despite the top earners at Twickenham, like chief executive Bill Sweeney and England head coach Eddie Jones, taking a 25 percent pay cut, the sheer size of their £750,000 salaries sits uneasily next to so many people losing their jobs.
Even with a salary cut both Sweeney and Jones will pocket over £550,000 this year. The pay scales ushered in during Andrew Cosslett’s chairmanship of the RFU management board are totally out of kilter not only with their job descriptions – with Jones only coaching for half the year – but also the difficult economic situation that looms.
A further 25 per cent cut for Sweeney and Jones is in order.
