Top lawyer backs Manu’s case

-

MANU Tuilagi will be able to make a good case for continuing his England career if he moves to France, says leading sports lawyer Richard Cramer.

Leicester confirmed on Friday that Tuilagi had his contract terminated after refusing to take a 25 per cent pay cut.

Cramer, the managing partner of Leeds-based

FrontRow Legal, says that the centre could argue he is an exceptional case and claim he has moved abroad because he was unable to mitigate his losses by staying in the Premiership.

Cramer said: “Manu has had his contract terminated through no fault of his own so in my opinion he would be able to challenge that rule.

“A lot depends on where he ends up but he could argue that he hasn’t been able to mitigate his losses. It would be very harsh to deprive him of his England career if he goes to play for a club in France. Because he has been left in a position where he has to mitigate his loss he has been forced to go to Japan or France.”
