New-dad Seb ready to stamp authority

- By ALEX BYWATER

SEB Davies is only 24, but he is growing up fast on and off the field.

The Cardiff Blues and Wales lock has been in fine form since rugby returned from lockdown and it has seen him earn selection for his country’s six-match autumn campaign.

Davies and his partner Isabelle have become parents to baby Jackson and the forward said: “I had a baby five weeks ago and I’m loving it.

“I wasn’t really sure how it was going to work, but my partner does most of the work! I try and help in any way I can and I think I’ve grown up really quickly.

“Having lost a lot of the senior boys at the Blues over the last few years and then having a baby it’s made me more of a leader and a voice in the team.

“Having played just over 70 games for the Blues and having played for Wales I’ve probably got more experience than a lot of boys in the team.

“I’m very happy to have been picked by Wales. I’ve been involved in the last few campaigns, but not picked up too many minutes on the field which has been disappointing.

“I’m excited to be involved. I want to play well for the Blues, train well for Wales, and hopefully I can get a chance. The more games the merrier for me.”

Davies is the sort of athletic, ball-playing forward Wales head coach Wayne Pivac likes and while lock is his preferred position he can also play across the loose forward positions.

He hopes to help Blues’ revival and add to his seven Test caps in the month ahead.

“Playing the majority of my games at lock helps me get better in that position,” he said. “I have played games at eight or six, but I’m more comfortable at lock.

“I’m happy with my form overall, but I have to make sure I keep that going.”
