Argentina flyer Seb wings in without Zoom

NEW Glasgow Warriors signing Sebastian Cancelliere says he has never spoken to any of the club’s coaching staff.

The ten-cap Argentina winger has signed an initial one-year deal and will arrive in the summer, but has not yet spoken directly with head coach Danny Wilson.

He will arrive at Scotstoun along with Pumas fly-half Domingo Miotti, who will join from Western Force in Australia.

“I didn’t speak to Danny at all, I don’t know his face,” Cancelliere told TRP. “I talked to Domingo and he had talked to Danny, and my agent spoke to Danny and the club to know what they want, but I didn’t talk to him personally.”

The 27-year-old also spoke to Enrique Pieretto, part of the current Glasgow squad.

“What he told me helped the decision, and Gabriel Ascarte (former Glasgow and Argentina centre) has told me a lot about the city, so that has helped the decision to come to Glasgow.”

Cancelliere, who got married last month to wife Paz, added: “Gabriel told me that he loved being in Glasgow; that they are a really serious team with good coaches, good staff and excellent people, and they both talked about Glasgow as a great place to play rugby.”

Glasgow have endured a torrid campaign, and are out of the running for Champions Cup qualification, but Cancelliere hopes he can help turn things around.

“Results have not been the best this season,” he said. “But I talked to Kike (Pieretto) at Glasgow and he told me that they are playing better and I hope next season I can give the team what it needs.”

Cancelliere will arrive at Scotstoun alongside New Zealand age-grade cap Josh McKay to add to a back three stock that includes young Scots Ollie Smith and Rufus McLean, as well as Scottishqualified Cole Forbes, and Cancelliere knows he’ll have to fight for a place in the Warriors team.

“I know there are some great players – competition is always great and I hope that it helps us to grow.”
