Legends line up in memory of Jack

-

THE rugby community is rallying around, as it always does, after the very sudden death from cancer in June of former Gloucester and Bristol favourite Jack Adams. Aged just 34, Jack left a wife Abbie and children Alfie, Florence and Tate.

Sunday September 5 has been designated as Jack Adams Memorial Day at Kingsholm with all local rugby fans – he also played for Cinderford and Chinnor – invited to Kingsholm for a series of games and general start-of-the-season rugby craic with all proceeds going to the family.

There will be three matches to watch starting with a local junior game followed by what could be a pretty competitive match between St Peter’s Old Boys – Jack’s old school – and a Gloucester Combination Select.

As St Peter’s, with the likes of Jack himself, Marcel Garvey, Adam Eustace, Ryan Lamb, Charlie Sharples and Shaun Knight to name a few – were one of the strongest schools in Britain throughout the noughties they could put out quite a decent team.

And then will come the main event with a Gloucester legends team skippered by Luke Narraway taking on their Bristol counterparts. Two of the best rugby podcasts around – the Good the Bad and the Rugby with James Haskell and Alex Payne, and the Rugby Pod with Andy Goode and Jim Hamilton – will be basing themselves for the day at Kingsholm which should be en fete with the first real gathering of the clans since Covid did its worse. Admission on the day will be £10 for adults and £7.50 for kids.
