BACK ROW (from left)

Sam Watson: A tighthead prop who spent his working life as a general labourer on building sites in the Northampto­n area until his death.

Geoff Wright: Second row, better known as Dougal, spent his working life as an electricia­n. Worked at the Carlsberg brewery from its opening in 1973 until his retirement.

Vince Cannon: The second row spent eight years teaching before moving into sales, later retraining as an HGV driver. He retires from Sainsbury’s, where he does home deliveries, later this month. His son James plays for Ealing Trailfinde­rs.

Dave Mason: Second row moved to Northampto­n from Moseley and worked as an accountant until his retirement, which has been spent living in Cornwall.

David Pinches: Centre, whose try against Moseley secured Saints the Daily Mail Pennant, is still living in the Northampto­n area.

Chris Sexton: Hooker won his colours for Oxford University and served in the army before becoming chief executive of the Army’s Engineerin­g School and Managing Director of Army recruitmen­t.

Peter Bignell: Winger who retired from playing early. “He didn’t turn up one season and we never saw him again,” said Vince Cannon.

MIDDLE

Geoff Allen: An accountant for Northampto­nshire County Council before becoming Saints’ first chief executive and was stadium announcer for 37 years until his retirement in 2019.

Peter Sweet: Flanker, who went on to captain Saints, was a teacher before going into the building industry before his death in Towcester in April 2005.

Jacko Page: Cambridge University educated scrum-half capped five times by England, spent 28 years with Lloyds Bank then ran an energy performanc­e certificat­es firm in Sutton Coldfield.

John Cubitt: Centre who worked as a PE teacher at Kingsley Park Middle School in Northampto­n before his retirement.

Frank Osborne: Played over 100 games for Saints. He is a farmer and is former chairman of Towcestria­ns Sports Club and helps organise the Blakesley & District Agricultur­al Show.

Trevor Saving: Centre who went into personal management and became chief operations and people officer at Arsenal FC and a director of Harlequins.

Bob Taylor: The England and Lions flanker was a PE and maths teacher at Wellingbor­ough Grammar school and then Lints Upper School. He was RFU president in 2007.

Phil Raybould: Full-back who was a local government officer, later became director of health, housing and community for Fareham Borough council, then ran a consultanc­y from his Hailing Island base.

Bob Leslie: The Saints club secretary ran a garage in the Daventry area for many years, where he lives in retirement.

FRONT

Barry Oldham: Winger who is Saints third highest try scorer of all-time; worked for Plessey now lives in Knutsford, Cheshire, and his business interests have included a taxi firm.

Ian George: Scrum-half who served Haileybury college as housemaste­r, master in charge of rugby and then director of sport. He is the father of England and Lions hooker Jamie.

Ian Wright: Captained from flyhalf, winning four England caps, was a teacher in Bishops Stortford, and Oxford. Died February 2000 in Cheltenham aged 54.

Also played cricket for Sussex CCC.

Hector Woolnough: A keen fisherman who also played for Northampto­n in the back row, ran the family painting and decorating firm. He died in May 2003.

Piggy Powell: England loosehead prop who toured with the Lions in 1966; a farmer then served as head groundsman at Franklin’s Gardens until he retired in 2015

Des Clarke: Centre who played for East Midlands and spent 40 years with the Anglia Building Society and the Nationwide building society. Has served as a parish councillor in Broad Hinton, Wiltshire.

Keith Parker: England U23 winger wgo was a PE teacher at Weston Favell Upper School and later at Mereway Upper. He is now retired, living in the Northampto­n area.

Paul Carter: Full-back who was another PE teacher in the squad, also taught design at the Wrenn School, and then Weevers School, now retired living in Wollaston.

INSERTS

Ian Lutter: England schools second row, top left, was taught at school by Bob Taylor at Wellingbor­ough Grammar school, joined Northampto­n Police and then had a spell in the prison service.

Andy Johnson: bottom, right: Spent two decades in the middle of Saints front row before moving into coaching and was another who worked as a school teacher. Now lives near Exeter.

NOT PICTURED

Nigel Fox: Prop who was a selfemploy­ed lorry driver delivering cattle feed. Died November 2012 aged 63.

Trevor Crane: Nicknamed Tonka, did various building site jobs until moving to the West Country in his retirement.
