Caldy pay penalty in Cinderford loss

- ■ By NIGEL WILCE

CINDERFORD edged past Caldy in an excellent game between two evenly-matched sides.

The contest was full of incident, with three penalty tries and a total of five yellow cards.

After early pressure by the visitors, the hosts opened the scoring as George Boulton broke and found Mike Austin, who put Tim Andrew away for a try under the posts. Reece Boughton converted.

The referee awarded Caldy two penalty tries in five minutes and showed yellow cards to Cinderford’s Jack Preece and Liam Hemming. The hosts held firm and, after Preece returned, they were awarded a penalty try for a deliberate knockon, which led to a yellow for Caldy’s Nick Royle.

With the score 14-14, there was a yellow card for visiting hooker Ed Stagg.

After a yellow card for Caldy’s Adam Aigbokhae, home pressure near the line saw the ball go out wide to Andrew and he forced his way over for Boughton to convert.

Caldy levelled with a Lucas Titherington try, which Ben Jones converted, but Cinderford got their bonus-point try when, after a series of pick-and-goes from the forwards, captain Harry Hone forced his way over. Boughton added a late penalty.
