First-half blitz good for Newport (Salop)
A RAMPANT Newport (Salop) are the early leaders and are the only side to have picked up maximum points from their first two games.
The Shropshire side ran out 54-26 winners at Oundle with 42 of their points coming in an emphatic first-half display.
Christopher Perry and Harry Mahoney both ran over a brace of tries each
for the visitors, while further scores came courtesy of Jacob Leonard, Chris Taylor, Alex Gow and Fredrick Bailey.
Connor Adams kicked six conversions and Benjamin Elliot the other.
Sandbach are hot on their tails, but dropped a bonus point scoring three tries in their 27-17 win over Doncaster Phoenix. Nick Allsop scored twice for the hosts, while Josh Brookes got the other, with Will Cargill consistent with his boot scoring all three conversions. It could have been more comfortable for Sandbach, but a late yellow card saw Doncaster come back into the tie.
Sheffield also sit on nine points after the opening two games, but had to withstand a late Bromsgrove fightback in their 26-24 victory.
Matt Adcock scored a converted try in response to an early try by the visitors, before hooker Yanto Jones gave his team a 12-10 lead at the break.
Jones scored his second try after the interval, while Steve Depledge also crossed, before a late rally by Bromsgrove saw Tom Sadler and Richard Hance score in reply.
Nuneaton picked up their first win of the season running out 26-23 victors at Syston.
Wingers Sam Everett and Andy Bowyer both picked up tries for the visitors along with Matt Guilfoyle and George Wallis, while Rick Aley kicked three conversions.
Scunthorpe also showed their early-season form beating Burton 53-14. Jacob Hardy and Colin Chapman scored first-half tries to give their side a 15-0 lead at the break. In the second half, skipper Tom Foster, a Ben Hyde brace, Josh Clarke and Joey Mowbrey all crossed to seal the win.
Elsewhere, Dudley Kingswinford picked up their second win of the season when they beat Paviors 16-14.
