Lugsden hits four to sink lowly Paviors

- Midlands Premier

LEADERS Bromsgrove

showed their title winning credentials by running out 85-5 winners against Dudley Kingswinford.

After scoring 57 points last week, they were in unforgiving form again as they remain three points clear at the top.

Sheffield remain hot on their tails, just a single point behind after running out 40-14 winners at home to Oundle.

Elliott Fisher scored a first-half brace for the hosts while Jack Hedley and Ianto Jones added further scores. After the break Sheffield added two further scores from Chris Pond and Dave Clayden to maintain their title charge.

Meanwhile, third placed Scunthorpe

hosted a struggling Paviors side and kept up their momentum with a 41-21 win thanks to four tries by Joshua Lugsden.

Lugsden scored a brace of first-half efforts for the title hopefuls only to see them cancelled out by a pair of trie courtesy of Christopher Eggleshaw for Paviours who trailed 17-14 at the break.

The second half saw Scunthorpe stretch their advantage with James Dyson and two more for Lugsden completing the win with Alexander Barton scoring in reply.

Newport (Salop) also maintained their pressure on the top sides battling out a 44-37 hard earned victory at Broadstreet.

Alex Gow and Sam Evans both ran over a brace of tries while Sam Brown and Jack Price also crossed the whitewash in the bonus point win.

Sandbach are on the cloak tails of the chasing pack and lost ground after suffering a 23-8 defeat at

Syston.

Sandbach were missing key players through injury and were overpowered by their hosts with the visitor’s points from Alex Bishop and a James Preston penalty.

Syston tries were courtesy of Jay Rudkin and Jamie Skeritt with one conversion and three penalties from the boot of Reece Jones.

After suffering a defeat in the Shropshire derby last weekend Bridgnorth bounced back to winning ways beating struggling

Nuneaton 45-26.

Doncaster Phoenix were pushed all the way but moved away from the pack fighting in the bottom four thanks to a 2522 victory at Burton in the day’s other game.
