Titans hit for six in Blackheath blitz

- By GRAHAM COX

A VASTLY improved performance saw Blackheath bag six tries against Taunton to record only their third victory of the season.

Despite conceding an early try, as Shai Bonnick broke tackles to score for the visitors, the hosts showed pace to respond.

A long pass out wide found Nick Foster, the wing making ground, before play moved inside for Jake Lloyd to cross. As line-out ball was driven towards the line in the 17th minute, Steve Leonard drove over for a 14-5 lead.

Alex Spurdle crossed in similar fashion for Taunton, Gary Kingdom adding the first of two conversions, but again the response was swift as Foster broke on the left touchline and, with quick support, Leonard was over for his second. Freddie Gabbitass added a third conversion, following up with a penalty, as Blackheath led 24-12 at the interval.

Foster grounded a kick soon after the restart, before Taunton’s Isaac Dalton scored. Foster then weaved over for a fifth Club try.

Ed Taylor towered above all in the lineout and the Club skipper’s take set up a 20-metre drive from which Harry Holland burrowed across. Sam Evans added a 40-metre penalty.
