Six-guns Pooler are off to a flyer
PONTYPOOL got their Championship campaign off to a flying start with a comprehensive 42-3 bonus-point win over
Maesteg Harlequins.
Leighton Jones’ side scored six tries with Ieuan Jones, Amosa Nove, Mike Hale, Ashley Sweet, and Kieran Meek touching down, while they were also awarded a penalty try.
Neath also began their league season with a bang as they overcame a resilient Narberth side with a 30-22 away win.
Full-back Iestyn Morgan scored their first try after hitting a tremendous angle to run in unopposed from 40 metres. Outside-half Steffan Williams also got in on the try scoring, with No.8 David Griggs powering over from short range.
Zak Fifield’s last gasp try won an enthralling encounter for Glamorgan Wanders who beat
Tata Steel 28-27. Cameron Gibbon and Ryan Shalish also scored tries for Martyn Fowler’s side.
Cardiff Met were also big winners as they outplayed Ystalyfera to win 43-22.
Dan Milton’s side scored four tries through Dylan Bartlett, Steffan Davies, Iwan Griffith and Rory Morgan.
Elsewhere, Trebanos outfought Cross Keys to run out 21-14 winners at home. Iestyn Lewis, and Matthew Edwards scored their tries, with Josh Williams touching down for Cross Keys, who also had a penalty try.
Bargoed ran out 32-10 winners against Beddau. Tries were scored by James Leadbitter and Matthew Thomas for Bargoed, with a penalty try also being awarded.
Beddau’s points came from a Scott Burrows penalty and a try by Adam Ashford who ran in from 50 yards.
Bedwas beat Ystrad Rhonnda 20-0 win via tries from Craig Hudd, Alex Bourne, and one under the posts from Matty Bancroft. Matty Bancroft kicked a conversion and a penalty.
