Sheffield sitting in pole position

-

SHEFFIELD sit in pole position in the Midlands Premier after recording their ninth win from 10 games, seeing off Sandbach 35-14.

Sandbach were looking to regain ground in the title race and took an early lead through two William Cargill penalties.

However, Sheffield have been in fine form this season and responded with tries from Elliot Fisher and Matthew Adcock before the break.

Adcock then clinched a third try to put the win beyond Sandbach before Dominic Parsons and Ieuan Cooke increased their advantage, despite Joel Grout pulling a late try back.

Despite Sheffield’s form, Newport (Salop) sit just a point behind them after a 38-29 win at Burton in a game they were never out of sight.

Newport were grateful to six different tryscorers, with Oli Buckley, Alex Gow, George CastleKirkby dine, Ricky Bailey, Jake Leonard and Connor Adams all crossing the whitewash.

Two second-half tries helped Bromsgrove keep in touch with the leading two teams with a 25-12 victory over Nuneaton.

The sides traded penalties early in the tie before the game’s opening try for Bromsgrove gave them a 10-9 advantage at half-time.

A top-half clash saw Scunthorpe lose ground on the top three teams while Syston kept their hopes alive with a 41-17 victory. Sam Brown scored a hat-trick of tries for the hosts.

Nothing could separate Bridgnorth and Paviors, despite 68 points being scored as the sides battled out a 34-34 draw.

A battling Oundle side remain inside the bottom two after falling to a narrow 29-25 defeat at Broadstreet.

Finally, Dudley Kingswinford gave themselves breathing space away from the relegation battle after a Benjamin Rhodes try gave them a 27-24 win at Doncaster Phoenix.
